Project Update – Kwasha Mukwenu Community School Matero Lusaka Training for Secondary Students
Our Lusaka based volunteer Bernard recently conducted training for secondary students at KM Community School. His brief report is here
“A total of twenty-two students attended a recent workshop. The topic was "Peer Pressure and how to overcome it." The objectives of the training were -
To Enable the Secondary School Learners to identify indicators of Peer Pressure and how to deal with those with negative effects.
To Enable the Learners to discuss the Best Way to Handle Peer Pressure.
To Help the Learners make Individual Action Plans to resist Negative Peer Pressure.
The evaluation done at the end of the workshop was as follows: -
(i) Students who stated "Very Good" were = 16.
(ii) Students who stated "Good" were = 3.
(iii) Students who stated "Fair" were = 2
(iv) Students who stated "I am Lost” = Nil
Overall, 86% of the students were happy with the contents of the training.
One of the outcomes was for the students to produce their own action plans on how they can resist negative pressure. Almost 98% of them pledged to cut off friendships with bad friends who have a negative influence on them. Others gave examples of stopping bad habits of drinking alcohol and stealing with immediate effect. They further pledged to work hard at schoolwork and concentrate on playing with good friends only whose influence is positive pressure.
At the end of the workshop, two students made some remarks that they had benefited greatly as the topic spoke to their hearts dearly.”
