Scenes from our Social Gathering Saturday 30th May 2026
We were delighted that around 50 members and friends were able to attend our social gathering in the Crypt of St John’s Church, Waterloo, London, on Saturday 30th May and are very grateful to Her Excellency the Zambia High Commissioner Macenje Mazoka for coming and addressing the meeting. She gave an encouraging report on the refinancing of Zambia’s national debt and incoming investment, as well as thanking us and the other charity representatives present for our support to the people of Zambia.
Our guest speaker this year was Samantha Sokoya, Head of Programmes and Partnerships at Book Aid International, a charity with 70 years of experience supplying over one million books worldwide each year.
The Zambia Society Trust has established a partnership agreement with Book Aid International, which enabled us to provide over 1000 new textbooks and reading books last year to three of the projects we support: Kwasha Mukwenu Community School in Lusaka, Pilgrim School in Serenje District, and St Lawrence Home of Hope in Lusaka. Samantha gave an informative powerpoint presentation describing the valuable work - especially in Zambia – of Book Aid International, followed by questions.
We were also pleased to welcome several representatives of other charities working in Zambia, including Book Bus (our guest speakers last year), Build It International and Tools with a Mission. There was time at the end for short impromptu talks from Tum Kazunga (Build It) and John Noble (Tools with a Mission) about the important work in Zambia of their respective charities.
