Harrogate Golf Day 2014 helps to raise £2,500 for The Zambia Society Trust

Our 4th annual northern golf day took place at Rudding Park, Harrogate in late September. We had a record number of teams playing, though sadly one team were unable to join us on the day.

The weather was very kind to us, fourth time lucky, and our 52 golfers thoroughly enjoyed themselves. No waterproofs, brollies or jumpers required!

A slight worry transpired as two non-golfers toured the course on the complimentary buggy to see how our participants were faring in the ‘beat the pro’ competition. Rather alarmingly, the two slightly less accomplished golfers from the first team out, with apologies to two lovely gentlemen, had indeed beaten him! Since this was supposed to be one of our chief money-spinners, we were somewhat panicked – but order was restored fairly quickly and at the end of the day a profit was realised!

Dinner was as usual, delicious and well received, with the chocolate golf balls we had procured attracting a lot of attention and positive comments. Dinner was followed by prize giving and once again we had great support from family and friends, and an alcohol theme was in evidence!

Our Champagne moment, however, was the somewhat unexpected beating of the pro, as mentioned earlier, by one of our golfers who has supported us each and every year so far.

In total, thanks to the generosity of all our golfers and very welcome donations from one or two corporate sponsors, we raised the magnificent total of £2,500. This was our best result to date – so here’s to the 5th northern golf day; onwards and upwards.
