Pilgrim - Salt in the Community – Project Update

Pupils at the Pilgrim School in Serenje District who are receiving sanitary products.

In the last quarter of 2024 ZST made one-off payments to some of the projects we support in addition to our usual funding to provide maize meal where a meal is provided, desks as many children learn sitting on the floor and sanitary products to improve school attendance.

Pilgrim School in Serenje District have purchased sanitary products. Grace Sholoma one of the founders has reported that this has already reduced absenteeism among female students. Pilgrim School have also purchased extra desks with the money ZST provided for this purpose.

Pilgrim - Salt in the Community” was established in 2012 by Grace and Jastin Sholoma in order to create a “Resource Village” to bring practical help and encouragement to people living in very small, widely dispersed settlements in an impoverished area in Kalilanama, Serenje District.

Chief Kabamba kindly allocated a large parcel of land for the project, and he continues to be an active supporter. The Resource Village includes a thriving school with 150 children from Pre-Grade to Grade 6 and three teachers and a health post.
