Here are the main highlights of the year:
We supported the education of 643 schoolchildren through grants to several of our projects
We provided grants to 57 students covering fees and accommodation to continue their higher education at universities and colleges in Zambia
We entered into a partnership with Book Aid International to supply textbooks and reading books to the schools we support at Kwasha Mukwenu, Home of Hope (both in Lusaka) and Pilgrim - Salt in the Community in Serenje District
Our Christmas Appeal exceeded expectations - it raised £4,195 for APTERS, an organisation based at the University Teaching Hospital in Lusaka making and supplying mobility aids for disabled children
Income for the year was £124,000 including £69,000 of legacy donations, substantially improving our financial position
Charitable expenditure was £49,000, representing 86% of the previous year's income
We established a Zambia-based volunteer team to help with the monitoring of the projects we support
In May we held a very successful social event for members and supporters at the Zambia High Commission. We were honoured to be addressed by the High Commissioner, Her excellency Macenje Mazoka whose support we greatly appreciate
Tim Legge completed his first year as Chair of the Zambia Society Trust, during which he visited Zambia several times and was able to visit all of our projects.
