Pilgrim, Salt in Community - Project Update
John Barnard, our Chairman, gives us an update on this project:
The leadership team of Grace, Jastin, Evans and Nicholas report there has been good progress on the project to carry out repairs and build another classroom at the school. This is due to be completed in the next few weeks. The school is gaining a very good reputation, and has recently been approved for Government support, which is excellent news. They are now planning to build two boarding houses for children who walk long distances each day to get to school. There are currently over 100 children and two teachers. Hopefully, more teachers will be able to be recruited shortly.
The Health Post is functioning well, and they are now making follow up visits to the local villages, to check on patients, distribute medicines and to give talks on health issues. Local people have been trained as community health workers.
Agriculture is expanding to include a variety of field crops, a vegetable garden, pigs and poultry. This provides food for the school pupils, as well as additional income. Local people are actively involved. All in all, thanks to the hard work from the leadership team in Zambia and the generosity of our donors, this project is progressing well.
