Northern Golf Day 2020 Report
A huge thank you to all who supported our 10th golf day at Rudding Park, Harrogate. We raised our best ever total of £3,220. Contributing to this magnificent amount were several donations, a very successful raffle and generous golfers, who, having ‘Beaten the Pro’ did not claim their winnings.
The weather was perfect for golf; sunny and still in the morning with just a bit of a dip in the temperature in the afternoon, and not so much as a raindrop all day. Incredibly, in the 10 years of our golf days we have had just one rainy round!
Due to the precautions in place because of the Covid-19 situation we were not able to have our usual sit-down dinner with all golfers. Instead we had a rolling barbeque so that as the players completed their round they could eat and then go. Typically, almost everyone stayed far longer than they needed to, suitably socially-distanced, enjoying the camaraderie and the evening sunshine.
Grateful thanks go to Andy Rose and his team for the very hard work they put in to make the day a success especially under the current conditions. It was a thoroughly enjoyable day, made all the more special because it was touch and go as to whether we would be able to go ahead, and also because this is likely to be the last such golf day that we organize. Should anyone else like to take up the mantle we are here to help but think that it is time we tried something different. We are thinking along the lines of a ceilidh . . . but you never know!
