Charity Café Day in Mungrisdale, Cumbria.

Our Treasurer Andy Rose organized a pop-up cafe to raise funds for ZST at the Village Hall, Mungrisdale on Saturday 10th December. This is Andy’s report of a very successful day.

“Following our two December café days last year, when the weather was most definitely not kind to us, we decided to hold just one such day this year, opting for 10th December with everything crossed for a gloriously sunny, crisp, cold Lakeland winter day. It was not to be!

We woke up to freezing fog and temperatures of -8 degrees! Undeterred, we opened at 10am, and after an understandably though slightly worrying first hour, our neighbours and friends braved the extreme chill, and by now heavy mist rather than thick fog, and turned out in force to support us. We were also pleased to welcome a few hardy walkers, visitors to the area, but did miss the presence of any cyclists who, again entirely understandably, were totally absent. Very sad, since they do tend to eat a lot!

We were delighted and frankly amazed to make a total of £850. The money will now be divided equally between the ZST and The Farming Community Network, (FCN), formerly The Farming Crisis Network, a national organisation providing all kinds of support to farmers who find themselves in extreme difficulty. A friend of ours works tirelessly for the charity and we were pleased to support her work.

Huge thanks to all who supported us in any way. It was a lovely, happy day with a great end result, and who knows, maybe next year, if we do another such event, we may get our glorious winter day!”

Thank you to everyone who helped or supported on the day in raising much needed funds for the Zambia Society Trust.
