APTERS win award!

Appropriate Paper Technology (APTERS) was recognised at the 2024 Zambia Environmental Management Agency (ZEMA) Environmental Awards in February. Here is an extract from their Facebook page.

“Sustainability is at the heart of APTERS does —transforming recycled paper into life-changing assistive devices for children with disabilities. Being recognized for our commitment to environmental responsibility is truly humbling, and we are excited to celebrate alongside other organizations making a difference. A big thank you to ZEMA for this recognition, and to everyone who supports our mission!”

The Zambia Society Trust has been supporting APTERS for many years including a Christmas Appeal in 2023 which raised over £4,000 from our members and supporters.

APTERS was established in 1990 as a collaboration between 3 skilled Zambians with physical disabilities and a British physiotherapist. APTERS’ objective is to produce assistive devices for children with disabilities. The devices include chairs, standing frames, and walkers made primarily from recycled materials. APTERS further supports Zambians with disabilities through employment opportunities.
