"I hope that as many people as possible will be able to attend. We are delighted to be meeting in person again after two years on screen. Non-members are also very welcome to join us”

14.15 Overview of the projects, with particular emphasis on the following two:
St Lawrence Home of Hope. This project was founded in 1998 in response to the growing number of “street children” in Lusaka. They aim to rescue children from the streets within a few days of their arrival before the children become embedded in the culture of homelessness. They offer a home, counselling and education to any child that wants to stop living on the street. At the same time, they try to trace the families of the children and work with the family and the child to attempt to reintegrate the child with their family wherever this is possible. Jacek Rakowski, Director of the Home of Hope, has been with the project from the start and he will describe the work. He is a recognised authority on street children and recently addressed the National Assembly of Zambia on the topic. Jacek will be speaking live from Lusaka.
Pilgrim - Salt in the Community. Jastin and Grace Sholoma were saddened by the desperate needs and severe malnutrition of remote rural villagers in Serenje District. They called a meeting of local people to share the vision of creating a “resource village” to provide a school, a health clinic, a church, a farm, residential huts, and skills training, including improved agricultural methods and crop diversity. The local chief has fully supported the project from the outset and the villagers are actively involved. Much has been achieved over the past ten years, and it stands as an innovative model for community development that could be replicated more widely.
