Introducing our new Chair Tim Legge

At the AGM of the Zambia Society Trust in November 2023 John Barnard stepped down as Chair of ZST after 12 years to be succeeded by Tim Legge. John described his time as Chair as “a great joy and privilege”. Tim briefly introduces himself below

“I feel honoured to have been elected as Chair during our AGM on 18th November. I am pleased to have this opportunity to introduce myself briefly.

I have been a regular visitor to Zambia since 2009 and have a deep love of the country and its people. For many years, visiting and supporting St Francis Mission Hospital in Eastern Province was my main focus. Anne, my wife, and I led several working parties to the hospital. This ended in 2020 following Anne’s death and the onset of the covid pandemic. However, I continue to coordinate the activities of the informal support group which Anne set up. This provides funds and medical supplies to the hospital, together with sponsorship of student nurses.

Since 2021, I have made 6 solo visits to Zambia and have travelled in several provinces. I have been delighted to visit all of the projects which ZST supports, as well as having the pleasure of meeting most of our hardworking committee members in Zambia and several of our supporters there. I intend to continue my twice-yearly visits, to keep in touch with our projects and their leaders.

I am very grateful for your support and interest, which enables the charity to provide grants to such worthwhile projects. In partnership with you, our trustees and committee members, I will strive to continue the excellent work of the Zambia Society Trust.

In conclusion, I wish to express my sincere thanks to John Barnard for his excellent service as our Chair for 12 years. I am very pleased that he will remain as a trustee, which means we can continue to draw on his knowledge and experience.”
